Pre-Conference Training Sessions

June 4-5, 2019: Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) Training Course

  • About the Training: The Emergency Management Standard Training Course will provide emergency management and preparedness personnel with valuable information regarding the Emergency Management Standard and its application. At the end of the course, participants may choose to be certified as Accreditation Managers and/or Assessors. Serving as an EMAP Accreditation Manager and/or an EMAP Assessor is an excellent way to serve the public and the profession of emergency management while broadening one’s knowledge of emergency management practices. The primary purpose of this training is to provide the necessary information, tools, and resources for personnel wishing to become an EMAP expert – whether to assist their Emergency Management Program achieve accreditation and/or become a member of the EMAP Assessor Cadre.
  • Pre-registration is required. No onsite registration is available. Registration ends May 22, 2019.

June 4-5, 2019: FEMA Public Information Officer Training Course

  • About the Training: Whether you are a part-time public information officer or full-time, you will learn in this 2-day course how to ensure that your affected public receives accurate and timely information during an emergency. Armed with good information, people are better able to make good decisions and, by doing so, contribute to the overall response goal of saving their company and/or saving lives and protecting property. You will receive training for the basic skills needed to function as a PIO such as oral and written communications, understanding and working with the media, and basic tools and techniques needed to perform effectively. We will consider the value of communication before, during and after an incident or emergency and will help you to identify critical audiences both internal and external.
  • Instructor: Robyn Keller.
  • Registration fee: $250 for IAEM members and $350 for non-IAEM members.
  • Pre-registration is required. No onsite registration is available.
  • Twelve (12) attendees must register by May 28, 2019, or the session will be canceled. Maximum class participants: 25.
  • Cut off date for registration: May 31, 2019.
     

June 4, 2019: OUR Responsibility: YOUR Role in Changing the Culture of Preparedness Through Youth Workshop - CANCELLED

  • Schedule: The workshop will take place on June 4, 2019, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (noon). This session has been cancelled.
  • Cost: Members $50 USD; Non-members $80 USD.
  • Instructors: Eva Cohen, National and Civil Protection, Youth Canada; and Ryan Akers, MyPI National Project Director.
  • About the Training:
    • Expanding and supporting preparedness partnerships for the future of Canada - MyPI.
    • Comprehensive education and teen outreach preparedness models for advancing community recovery and resilience from emergencies and disasters - National and Civil Protection Youth Canada.
  • Maximum Class Participants: 24.
       

June 5, 2019: AEM/CEM Preparatory Course & Exam

  • About the Training: The International Association of Emergency Managers offers the AEM/CEM Prep Course to candidates interested in the Association Emergency Manager/Certified Emergency Manager certification. The course will last between 4-5 hours and will be taught by a Certification Commissioner. We require at least 10 participants for the Prep Course. Learn more.
  • The cost for the Prep Course is $495/person.
  • The cost for the certification exam is $595/person for non-IAEM members and $395 for IAEM members.
  • Pre-registration is required. There is no on-site registration.
  • Visit the registration page to register. The registration period ends on May 24, 2019. There must be a minimum of 10 registrants to hold the Prep Course. Contact info@iaem.com if you have any questions.
  • Note: The Prep Course fee and Certification application fee for the AEM/CEM exam are in addition to the conference registration fee, are non-refundable, non-transferable, and in U.S. dollars.
