IAEM-LAC Professional Recognition Program

The IAEM Latin America Council Professional Recognition Program is designed to improve Global preparedness, resilience, and risk reduction by recognizing increasing levels of training, experience, and professional contributions by emergency managers in a manner that is achievable and effective across any geographic region. This professional recognition program is available to those from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. 

 Multi-tiered Recognition Program

There are three levels of recognition for Professional Emergency Development.  Each will build on the level below to increase an individual’s industry knowledge, expertise, and experience, and to strengthen their training, experience, and professional contributions on their resume. Each level of recognition is significant on its own, and there is no requirement that any candidate complete all levels. 

Professional Emergency Manager – I

  • 50 hours of Emergency Management training
  • 50 hours of General Management training
  • Letter of Reference

Professional Emergency Manager - II

  • 100 hours of Emergency Management training
  • 100 hours of General Management training
  • Documented work experience in the field of Emergency Management
  • If not already PEM-I, letter of reference

Professional Emergency Manager - III

  • 100 hours of Emergency Management training
  • 100 hours of General Management training
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience 
  • If not already PEM-II, letter of reference
  • Three professional contributions as defined by the IAEM certification program

Application Fees

Application fees are in USD. Payment is due at the time of registration.

Level 1 Fundamental - IAEM Members $75
Level 1 Fundamental - Non-Members $125
Level 2 Advanced – IAEM Members $150
Level 2 Advanced – Non-Members $200
Level 3 Executive – IAEM Members $225
Level 3 Executive – Non-Members $275

Renewal fees for any level of recognition are $150.00 for IAEM members and $225.00 for non-members. 

Register for the Program

Renewal process

Once an Emergency Manager is recognized under this program as a Professional Emergency Manager I, II, or III, they must renew their recognition to maintain the same level every 3 years by submitting the following documentation.

  • 15 hours of continuing education in Emergency Management that were completed since initial recognition.
  • 15 hours of continuing education in General Management were completed in the three years since initial recognition.
  • Documentation of membership in a professional Emergency Management organization, such as IAEM, at the global, council, or regional level for the prior three-year period.
