IAEM-USA Student Advocate of the Year: University of Central Florida Emergency Management & Homeland Security Advisory Board
Established in 2014, the University of Central Florida (UCF) Emergency Management & Homeland Security Advisory Board brings together approximately 20 emergency management practitioners, alumni, and student representatives to strengthen the university’s academic programs. By integrating real-world experience into classroom instruction, the board helps prepare graduates for the challenges of today’s increasingly complex disasters. Its contributions have supported the growth and national recognition of UCF’s emergency management programs, including the university’s top-ranked master’s program and its accreditation by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration.
IAEM-USA Student Chapter of the Year: California State University, Long Beach
Founded in 2025, the IAEM student chapter at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) has quickly established itself as a leader in student engagement and professional development. Through networking events, conference participation, and tours of emergency management facilities, the chapter connects students with professionals and career-building opportunities throughout Southern California. During its inaugural year, the chapter also earned CSULB’s Gold Award for Outstanding New Organization of the Year, demonstrating its commitment to developing the next generation of emergency managers.
IAEM-USA Student of the Year: Ethan Scenters-Zapico
Ethan Scenters-Zapico, a graduate of California State University, Long Beach, earned a master’s degree in emergency services administration and founded the university’s award-winning IAEM student chapter. Recognized by CSULB as its Most Outstanding Graduate Student in the School of Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Emergency Management, he also received an award for developing an innovative emergency response plan template for Los Angeles County water districts. Through his academic achievements, conference presentations, and advocacy for emerging professionals, Scenters-Zapico has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing the emergency management profession.
IAEM-USA congratulates all three recipients for their outstanding achievements and dedication to strengthening emergency management education, leadership, and professional development.
