IAEM-USA Announces 2026 Volunteer Award Recipients
Awards recognize outstanding contributions to emergency management through volunteer service
October 15, 2026 – The International Association of Emergency Managers USA Council (IAEM-USA) has announced the recipients of its 2026 Volunteer Awards, recognizing an organization and an individual for exceptional dedication to strengthening emergency preparedness, response, and recovery through volunteer service. The recipients will be honored at the IAEM Annual Conference & EMEX Awards Banquet on Nov. 11 in Long Beach, California.
IAEM-USA Voluntary Organization of the Year: Sonoma County Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD)
Founded in 2018 in the wake of the devastating 2017 Sonoma Complex Fires, Sonoma County COAD unites more than 70 nonprofit, faith-based, community, and government partners to address critical needs before, during, and after disasters. The organization strengthens coordination, supports underserved populations, and helps close gaps in disaster services. During the 2023 winter storms, COAD mobilized more than 50 member organizations to assist more than 1,100 residents through recovery support centers. This collaborative approach demonstrates the essential role of community organizations in building disaster resilience.
IAEM-USA Volunteer Emergency Manager of the Year: Michael F. Collett
Lt. Col. Michael F. Collett serves as the director of emergency services for the Utah Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, coordinating search-and-rescue and disaster-relief operations in support of state and local agencies. A 22-year Civil Air Patrol volunteer and former naval aviator, Collett has dedicated his service to strengthening interagency partnerships, supporting emergency operations, and facilitating joint aviation training exercises with the Utah National Guard and county sheriff’s search-and-rescue teams. His commitment to collaboration has enhanced emergency response capabilities across Utah.
IAEM-USA congratulates both recipients for their outstanding service and contributions to the emergency management profession. Additional information about the award recipients and their accomplishments will be featured in a special publication available on the IAEM website, www.iaem.org, in early November.
