Today, the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) reaffirmed its steadfast support for the emergency management profession. In a letter to President Donald J. Trump, IAEM formally requested a seat at the table of the new Federal Emergency Review Council as it reviews FEMA’s role and considers critical reforms to the Stafford Act and Disaster Relief Fund. IAEM-USA represents the full spectrum of emergency management professionals and proudly stands as the world’s largest non-profit organization advocating for the priorities of local emergency managers. Our deep expertise, proven leadership, and commitment to strengthening the U.S. emergency management system uniquely position us to provide invaluable insight into this review process.

As disasters and emergencies become increasingly complex and frequent, the association remains committed to advocating for robust resources, professional development, and collaboration to ensure communities are prepared for crises.

“Our members are the backbone of community resilience,” said Carrie Speranza, CEM, president of the U.S. Council of IAEM. “As an association, we are committed to strengthening their capabilities and ensuring they have the tools, training, and partnerships needed to safeguard our communities.”

IAEM collaborates closely with our partners to promote policies that empower emergency managers. It also emphasizes the importance of recognizing this profession as a crucial pillar of national security and resilience.

IAEM acknowledges the need for ongoing improvements in disaster recovery to streamline parallel response and recovery structures that can duplicate effort and create confusion at all levels of government. Moreover, IAEM emphasizes that the partnership between federal, state, private, and local entities is crucial for the recovery of our communities.

The association calls on public officials, community leaders, and private partners to support the emergency management industry as we work together to improve processes during this review. Collaborative efforts are essential to navigating the challenges of modern disasters and ensuring the safety and security of all Americans.
