Proctor Requirements

IAEM Certification Exam

To ensure fairness and integrity, the IAEM Certification Exam must be administered by an unbiased proctor who meets specific criteria.

Who Can Be an Approved Proctor

  • Former certification commissioners with a current AEMĀ or CEMĀ certification who are not serving in a role supporting the Certification Commission.
  • Current IAEM Council Board or Global Board member, or a past president with a current AEMĀ or CEMĀ certification.
  • IAEM staff
  • Someone in the education department/registrar’s office a local high school, college/university, or testing center.
  • Education office personnel at uniformed services installations.
  • Official testing facility
  • State/Regional training coordinator may be considered on a case-by-case basis as long as the applicant and the proctor do not work within the same department/division.

Examinees may request approval to use alternative proctors such as a librarian, Police Department, Fire Department or other entities that already offer proctored professional exams, if they are not able to first locate a proctor from the list above.


Individuals Who Cannot Serve as Proctors

  • Your subordinate or manager
  • A colleague you work with regularly
  • A relative or someone with a personal relationship with you
  • An instructor who facilitated an Exam Prep Course attended by the examinee
