The IAEM Latin America Council Professional Recognition Program is to improve Global preparedness, resilience, and risk reduction through recognizing increasing levels of training, experience, and professional contributions by Emergency Managers in a manner that is achievable and effective within any geographic region.  This professional recognition program is available to those from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. 

The application fees (in USD) determined for each level are as follows.  Payment is due at the time of registration:

• For IAEM members: Level 1 – Fundamental: $75.00, Level 2 – Advanced: $150.00, Level 3 – Executive: $225.00.
• For non IAEM members: Level 1 – Fundamental: $125.00, Level 2 – Advanced: $200.00, Level 3 – Executive: $275.00.
• Renewal fees for any level of recognition are $150.00 for IAEM members and $225.00 for non IAEM members. 

The three levels and their basic requirements will be as follows:
 

Professional Emergency Manager – I - Fundamental

• Letter of Reference from your supervisor
   

Professional Emergency Manager - II - Advanced
 

• 75 hours of Emergency Management training

• 75 hours of General Management training

• If not already PEM-I, letter of reference from your supervisor

• One professional contribution as defined by the IAEM certification program

Professional Emergency Manager - III - Executive
 

• Minimum of three (3) years of work experience or volunteerism 

• If not already PEM-II, letter of reference from your supervisor
   

Renewal process

Once an Emergency Manager is recognized under this program as a Professional Emergency Manager I, II, or III, they can renew their recognition at the same level every three years by submitting the following documentation:

• 15 hours of continuing education training in Emergency Management completed in the three years since initial recognition.
• 15 hours of continuing education in General Management completed in the three years since initial recognition.
• Documentation of membership in a professional Emergency Management organization such as IAEM at the global, council, or regional level for the prior three-year period.
