IAEM Awards FAQ 2020: Award Categories and Interest Groups

1. What awards are open to the most supportive volunteer or voluntary organization for this year?

Individual volunteers can be nominated for the EM Volunteer of the Year and organizations can be nominated for the Voluntary Organization of the Year. Use this entry form for either nomination.

2. How can I nominate a community partner, organization, or jurisdiction for an innovative program or technology?

Nominate any of these for the Technology and Innovation Award if they have developed a technology or innovation to improve emergency management operations, public education, or the emergency management/homeland security field. This award is for technological innovations developed without a third-party contract or without using grant funds obtained specifically for this purpose. This is an IAEM-Global Award and members in any location worldwide are eligible. Use this entry form.

3. How do I recognize our IAEM Student Chapter? 

The IAEM-USA Student Chapter of the Year award is for the student chapter that has made significant contributions in promoting IAEM, the Student Council, and the field of EM. Use this entry form.

4. How can I nominate a student for outstanding contributions?

The Global Student Award for Student of the Year Award is open to nominations of any IAEM Student member worldwide who has made significant contributions to the field of emergency and disaster management, through volunteer work, promotion of the field, and/or contributions to their community. Use this entry form.

5. How can I nominate a person or organization for supporting our students this year?

There is also a Global Award for the Student Ally of the Year for individual IAEM members, non-members, or organization that assists, promotes, or supports IAEM students in their activities. Use this entry form for the Student Ally of the Year or this entry form for Student Advisor of the Year.

6. Can I nominate a colleague for developing an original emergency public information program?

The Global Public Awareness Award is open to individuals or organizations that develop public awareness programs or public education products related to emergency management, homeland security, public health preparedness, and/or disaster preparedness. Inclusive of Emergency Public Information, e.g. situation reports regarding a current emergency, use of social media to inform public, etc. Use this entry form.

7. How can we recognize a local coalition or partnership that helped our jurisdiction achieve preparedness or recovery goals?

The Global Business & Industry Preparedness Award or the Global Partners in Preparedness Award (Public/Private Partnership) are open to programs or organizations. Take a look at both awards for more specific details. Use this entry form for either award.

8. How do we recognize a partner that developed a new technology or innovative process that improved our outcomes? 

Nominate a partner (Individual/Program/Organization) for the Technology and Innovation Award if they have developed a technology and/or an innovation to improve emergency management operations, public education, or the emergency management/homeland security field. This award is for technological innovations developed without a third-party contract or without using grant funds obtained specifically for this purpose.  Use this entry form.

9. How can I recognize a colleague who has served the field of emergency management with distinction? 

10. How can I recognize a Uniformed Services member (military or civilian) for their service to emergency management?

There is NO entry form for these awards. Follow the instructions in the guidelines about the content and format of entries. USC Awards history and documentation requires 18 months of consideration of award-worthy accomplishments, not 12 (1 year) or a career.

Please Note: All IAEM-USA Uniformed Services award submissions should be submitted directly to IAEM by the first signatory (O-6 or GS-15) submitting the recommendation.
